DWDM / CWDM channel planner

DWDM channels follow ITU-T G.694.1, where frequency in terahertz is 193.1 plus the channel number times the grid spacing. Wavelength in nanometres is the speed of light divided by frequency. CWDM uses 18 fixed channels from 1271 to 1611 nm in 20 nm steps.

Enter channel numbers below. Everything is calculated in your browser from what you type.

Convention varies by vendor. Here n=0 is 193.1 THz.

How this is worked out

Every formula is shown and every input is yours to change. A planner with hidden maths is not a tool.

Channel naming varies by vendor. This planner uses the common 100 GHz convention where channel equals the frequency minus 190 divided by 0.1, so 193.1 THz is channel 31 at 1552.52 nm. The range is limited to C-band, about 191.3 to 196.1 THz.

CWDM channels are fixed by ITU-T G.694.2 at 20 nm spacing. There are 18 of them and they do not move with grid settings.
