A data centre migration is the planned relocation of racks, servers, storage and network equipment from one facility to another. DataOptix audits the estate, builds a dependency-aware move sequence, decommissions and transports the hardware, then reinstalls, cables and verifies it at the destination. The point of the plan is that every wave has a rollback and nothing moves before its dependencies do.

How it works
From request to sign-off
Step 1: Audit and plan
We record what is installed, how it is cabled and what depends on what, then agree move groups and the rollback point for each wave.
Step 2: Move in waves
Each wave is decommissioned, photographed, transported and reinstalled inside its change window, with the rollback available until sign-off.
Step 3: Verify and hand back
Equipment is powered on, reachability confirmed and smoke tests run with your team before the source space is decommissioned and handed back.

Data centre migrations questions
How much downtime does a migration need?
It depends on how much of the estate is resilient. Services running active-active across two sites can often move with no downtime at all, while a single-instance database needs a window sized to the shutdown, transport and start-up time. The audit is what turns this into a real number.
Do you handle the transport as well?
Yes. We arrange insured, shock-monitored transport appropriate to the equipment and distance, and our engineers accompany the load between sites.
What happens if something fails to come back up?
Every wave carries a rollback point that stays available until you sign the wave off. If a device does not return to service we work the fault at the destination and, if it cannot be resolved in the window, restore the wave to its previous state.
Can you migrate between providers rather than between halls?
Yes. Cross-provider and cross-border moves are common work for us. The extra planning goes into cross-connect provisioning and carrier lead times at the destination, which we start well before the move date.
